Personal Income Tax

Personal T1 returns prepared carefully - so you claim what you are entitled to.

A personal tax return should do two things: be right, and claim everything you are entitled to. Software alone cannot ask the questions a professional will: about your family situation, medical expenses, tuition, RRSP room, home office, or that rental property you started renting out last spring.

We prepare personal T1 returns for employees, families, students, seniors, self-employed individuals, and newcomers to Canada. Every return is prepared by a Chartered Professional Accountant, and filed electronically with the CRA.

If you have fallen behind on prior-year returns or received a letter from the CRA, we can help you catch up and respond properly.

Common questions

For most individuals the return and any balance owing are due April 30. If you or your spouse are self-employed, the filing deadline is June 15, but any balance owing is still due April 30. When a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the CRA extends it to the next business day.

Bring your slips (T4, T4A, T5, T3, T5008, and similar), RRSP contribution receipts, medical and donation receipts, tuition forms (T2202), childcare receipts, details of any self-employment or rental income and expenses, and your prior-year notice of assessment. If you are a new client, a copy of last year's return helps us spot carry-forward amounts.

Yes. Filing outstanding returns is common and usually straightforward, and often results in refunds or benefit payments you have been missing. We can retrieve much of your slip information directly from the CRA, prepare the outstanding years, and advise you if relief provisions apply to any penalties or interest.
