WCB Filing & Returns

WCB-Alberta registration and annual returns, filed correctly and on time.

Most Alberta employers, and many contractors working in construction and other compulsory industries, are required to carry WCB-Alberta coverage. That comes with obligations: registering at the right time, reporting your payroll accurately, and filing your annual return by the deadline so your premiums are assessed correctly.

We handle WCB compliance as a natural extension of payroll and bookkeeping. We register new accounts, prepare and file annual returns, revise payroll estimates when your workforce changes, and help you respond to WCB account reviews. Accurate reporting matters in both directions: under-reporting leads to surprise premium adjustments, while over-reporting means you have been paying more than you should.

Common questions

WCB-Alberta annual returns are due by February 28 each year. The return reports your actual payroll for the previous year and your estimate for the current year, which WCB uses to adjust and set your premiums.

It depends on your industry and how you work. Coverage is compulsory in most industries once you have workers, and contractors are often required by their principals to hold coverage or provide a clearance letter even without employees. Owners can also apply for optional personal coverage. We can review your situation and advise what applies.

When you file your annual return, WCB compares your actual payroll to the estimate you reported. If actual payroll was higher, you will be invoiced for the additional premium; significant under-estimates can also attract penalties. We help you set realistic estimates and revise them during the year when things change.
